Power Electronics and Electrical Drives Laboratory

The main activities of the Laboratory are different standard or specific developmental, research and type tests of: 

  1. rotating machines: motors and generators
  2. power electronics devices
  3. adjustable speed electrical power drive systems
  4. power electronics embedded control systems.

Test facilities and laboratory equipment:

  • source AC 440V, 50/60Hz, 400kW
  • source AC 300A, 760V
  • source DC 600V – 4200V, 200kW
  • source 1ph AC 25kV, 50Hz, 1MVA
  • 60 kVA regenerative grid simulator (CHROMA 61860), intended for GCC testing; characteristics: 1ph/3ph, output voltage 0-300Vac, output frequency up to100Hz; voltage dips, short interruption and LVRTsimulation; arbitrary voltage waveform synthesis
  • solar array simulator, adjustable I-V characteristic, 0-1000Vdc, 0-210A, 210kW
  • 400kW load (DC rotating machine), 1500/3000rpm
  • R/L water load
  • back-to-back converter testing
  • accredited EMC laboratory
  • large walk-in climate chamber (4900x3300x3200mm, -55°C - + 100°C).

In cooperation with other laboratories of  KONČAR – Electrical Engineering Institute laboratories, we offer environmental testing of various power electronics stated equipment using the available test facilities as test beds. Some of examples:

  • noise level testing of main traction converter for electric multiple unit train
  • temperature testing of railway level crossing half-barriers
  • temperature testing of main traction converter for diesel-electric multiple unit train
  • temperature testing of transformer control cubicle for nuclear power plant
  • EMC testing of static converters
  • IP testing of static converters.

We also offer design and development of different types of power electronics equipment (PV inverters, power module integrated and orientated inverters, DC/DC converters, unidirectional and bidirectional chargers from small to large scale for different applications; storage facilities, combined heat and power generation plants, railway power converters, controllable transformers...), including design and development of power electronics embedded control systems.
